American tennis player Taylor Fritz has sailed into the quarterfinals at the 2023 US Open. The 25-year-old will now face 23-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in the fifth round. Although the Serbian has a clear edge over his American counterpart, the timing of the match has triggered a debate around the US Open scheduling and Andy Roddick is the first one to jump into the discussion.
Roddick has claimed that the match being scheduled in the day will benefit Fritz while the heat and the humidity will only make it tougher for Novak Djokovic. The discussion started when one of the Fritz fans wished to see the local boy play at night and the crowd cheering for him.
Meanwhile, Andy Roddick claimed that Fritz was given a midweek daytime billing to only benefit him. The former American tennis ace claimed that the court plays quicker during the day and the extreme weather during the day will help Fritz pull off an upset against the second-seed Djokovic.

However, when Roddick was asked if he is claiming that the 2023 US Open schedule was rigged on purpose, he denied saying, “Typically unhinged, and full of projection…Was only commenting on how conditions might affect a given match. Like we tend to do for every match. Was not an opinion on scheduling. Was purely speculative on how forecast affects this match.”
Andy Roddick backs Novak Djokovic to win despite all odds against him

Despite all odds stacked against him (as claimed by Andy Roddick), the American has backed Novak Djokovic to ease past Fritz. Roddick, who has always been an ardent supporter of the Serbian, has said that his analysis does not mean Fritz will be better in the heat and he backs Djokovic to come good despite many obstacles.
“And don’t even think he’s better in the heat. Just think he needs extremes to pull off the upset. Would still pick Nole all day, any surface, any forecast,” replied Roddick when a fan tried to explain his prediction about the game saying Fritz would be better in the heat.
Talking about the head-to-head record between the two players, Novak Djokovic is miles ahead of Taylor Fritz, leading the chart 7-0. Fritz’s recent defeat against Djokovic came at the Cincinnati Masters semifinal when the 36-year-old beat the 25-year-old American in straight sets of 6-0, 6-4.
