World No.1 Novak Djokovic eased his way past Aljaz Bedene in the third round of the 2022 French Open to reach the Round of 16 in Paris for the 16th time. Djokovic won the match in straight sets 6-3,6-3,6-2. The Serb has had three pretty solid victories in the tournament and is yet to drop a set. But his main challenge begins from now onwards as his draw gets very tough. He will face Argentine Diego Schwartzman in the fourth round before eventually locking horns against arch-nemesis Rafael Nadal in the last 8.

After his third-round victory, Djokovic spoke about his former coach and tennis legend Boris Becker. The 54-year-old was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison and is currently moved to Huntercombe prison in Oxfordshire which is used for foreign people about to be deported.

Djokovic said that his heart breaks to see what happened with Becker and spoke about their relationship. He refused to comment on what is fair and what is not regarding Becker’s imprisonment.

“It breaks my heart to see what happened. We had a great relationship throughout my career. I don’t want to go into the process or what’s fair, what’s not, or what was done,” he said.

He reminisced how Becker was like a family member to him, especially during the time they worked together. He then revealed that he had offered help to Becker’s son Noa. He also wished great health to Becker.

“Just as someone that is considering Boris really as a friend and family member, really, he was always so nice to me and my family, and we had a great relationship throughout the years, particularly when we worked for three years and achieved great things in this sport. I talked to his son Noa, asked if there is anything I can do. It’s just sad, I hope that he stays healthy and strong,” Djokovic said.
