“It doesn’t make sense but I’m happy with what I have done,” David Ferrer reminisces on not being able to win a major title in his elite career

David Ferrer
Since his retirement from tennis in 2019, Spanish superstar David Ferrer has kept active by appearing as a guest speaker on tennis programmes. Among his many accomplishments, Ferrer finished second at the 2013 French Open and the 2007 ATP Finals. During his 19-year career, he amassed 27 career victories and contributed significantly to Spain’s three Davis Cup championships in 2008, 2009, and 2011. He nearly missed winning an Olympic medal when he and partner Feliciano Lopez fell to the French team of Richard Gasquet and Julien Benneteau in the bronze medal match at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
He serves as an example for aspiring professionals who lack the natural skill of the top but work tirelessly to become one of the best. The Spaniard is a former World No.3 and a finalist at the French Open.

“Not having a grand slam does not make sense” David Ferrer reflects on his career

In a recent interview with Superdeporte, David Ferrer gave his opinion on Carlos Alcaraz by comparing him in particular to Rafael Nadal. He later spoke about himself and looked back on his long, illustrious career. He was chosen by the team’s readers as the finest tennis player in history who never claimed a Grand Slam title at the beginning of June. The finalist for Roland-Garros 2013 responded to this poll with a hint of bittersweet.
“That’s good, but I don’t agree with a lot of importance to polls either. It’s an important newspaper and I thank those who voted, because there were great players. This is good and bad. This gives you a feeling of importance that almost many years have in the Top 10, you are told that you are the best player in the history without a grand slam.“
He signed off on a poignant note by saying, “But the problem is that with the CV I had, not having a grand slam does not make sense. Although my time as a player is over, I am happy with what I have been able to do.”
