“It has to be something special,” Alex Corretja suggests Roger Federer demands special privileges over joining the BBC for Wimbledon

Roger and BBC

Former world No.1, Roger Federer is currently having negotiations with BBC over their Wimbledon coverage this year to boost the popularity of the sport. Roger retired from the professional sport last year at the Laver Cup and ended his marathon career. He played his last Wimbledon in 2021 and couldn’t compete in 2022 due to an injury.

The English owned Roger more than any other player. With his retirement, the organizers and the broadcasters of Wimbledon felt that there has been a decline in interest in Wimbledon from the audience and fans. To overcome this situation, BBC has already started talks with the Swiss icon. However, Alex Corretja suggests that Roger should demand special privileges to join BBC.

Speaking to the Express Sport Alex said “I mean Roger can do whatever he likes, he’s going to be welcome anywhere he goes. He knows tennis, he loves tennis, he is well respected, he’s such a classy guy and definitely that would be awesome for us to have him somewhere related to tennis.”

He further elaborated his notion by saying “I think it will be awesome to have Federer involved in tennis which I think he will continue, but the more he will be, the better for everyone. But I see him running a show, being the main one there and saying ‘Okay, I’m the man here’, guiding the whole thing. Maybe doing interviews or a program, doing something special.”

Alex finally ended by saying “But it has to be something special and knowing Roger, for sure it’s going to be something special. You need to value Federer as what he is and he has to be something very unique because he is very unique.”

Roger Federer is likely to return to Wimbledon in a different role

Roger Federer’s most favorite Major is Wimbledon as he won a record eight times there. His first Grand Slam title also happened to come at Wimbledon. Fans absolutely love him at this Major tournament. It’s quite surprising to see the support he gets over the local star Andy Murray. Such is his stardom at this iconic Grand Slam tournament.

However, the rumors of his return to cover this year’s event with BBC has been the best news for Roger fans and also the tennis world. People are excited to see him on the court again. Roger is actively participating in various events and programs of late and is having the best time since his retirement. However, fans would want to see him on the court and listen to his words during the matches.
