Dominic Thiem
Dominic Thiem is eager to return to his best form but persistent injury concerns have pegged him back which has resulted in his career coming to a standstill. Currently looking to come back, the Austrian is showing gradual signs of improvement. Thiem recently featured at the Estoril Open and to everyone’s surprise, the former US Open champion bowed out of the tournament in the first round after losing to Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.
After the defeat against Bonzi, Thiem touched on how it is difficult to lose in the opening round matches but he also touched on the topic of improvement and feels that he is getting better with every game and will soon play at the level that everyone expects him to play. “It’s tough to lose in early rounds and I feel this won’t be the last time, but at the same time is nice to feel that I’m improving every week. It’s a feeling that you don’t have when you are top5”.
This is Thiem‘s fourth first round exit on the bounce and the Austrian looks reasonably calm because he is not chasing results right now he is more focused on getting fitter and getting up there where he belongs. He lost the opening round in the Challenger event in Marbella back in Spain. Then he came to Serbia Open and lost the first round against Australia’s John Millman. it was a three set match and despite going down Thiem came back by winning the second set. But Millman upped the ante in the third and wrapped it up.

“I know it will take time for me to regain my perfect strength and my full potential. But I am ready to embark on this path. My aim is to do my best every day to take full advantage of my potential. Each day I notice that I get stronger and feel better from practice to practice and now also from one match to another,” he wrote on Twitter.
“It is a process that takes time. I would like to thank everyone who accompanies me on my journey! Every day I appreciate the motivating messages and comments!” Thiem concluded.
