Ahead of the ATP Finals, Rafael Nadal recalled the grand farewell Roger Federer received a couple of months ago at the Laver Cup. Federer retired from professional tennis at the Laver Cup and played the last match of his career partnering Nadal in a doubles match. Federer’s farewell at the O2 Arena will go down as one of the most emotional nights in tennis history.

Federer couldn’t hold back his tears after the match and to everyone’s surprise, Nadal too was sobbing like a baby seeing his biggest friend and rival on tour crying. In an exclusive interview with ge in Turin, Nadal recalled that night and revealed how emotional it was for everyone to see a legend retire. He reminisced his days with Federer and termed him an ‘adventure companion’.

“It was a beautiful day, exciting, but also sad, after all, it was a day of many emotions. A legend of world sport has retired, without a doubt. He was an adventure companion. We shared many years on the circuit, many important moments for him and for me, that we competed together,” he said.

Rafael Nadal labels the night of Roger Federer’s retirement as ‘unforgettable’

Nadal added that he was happy because Federer had an unforgettable night in London on his farewell and talked about the affection he received from fans all around the world. He further said that he was lucky to be part of Federer’s last professional moment.

“I am happy because Roger can have an unforgettable night in London on his farewell, with the affection of so many people from all over the world. He deserves it for being a great example and an icon. In that sense, for me, personally, to be part of his last professional moment… It was a hard day, but with many emotions,” Federer said.

In Turin, Nadal will lead the Green Group as the top seed and would want to win his maiden ATP Finals title next week.
