Venus Williams, the former World one and one of the greatest players of all time, had a shocking first-round exit at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati losing to Karolina Pliskova in straight sets after she was given a wild card entry at the tournament. She played her first singles match at the Citi Open after a gap of one year which was also her debut season where she had received a wild-card entry. But her stint was short-lived as she got faced another disappointing defeat against Rebecca Marino in straight sets.

The 42-year-old American is a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion with being five times champion at Wimbledon and two times champion at the US Open. Venus Williams has long established her status as a legendary tennis player and inspired millions around the world over her illustrious career of almost three decades. She along with her sister Serena Williams have won 14 women’s doubles major titles and are an undefeated pair in the Grand Slam finals.

Rennae Stubbs, the former Australian player, in an interview, believes that Venus Williams‘s retirement decision will likely be followed after the 2022 US Open where her sister Serena will play the last match of her career and it won’t be at all shocking for her. She said, “I think that it would very much surprise me if Venus Williams doesn’t retire as well at the US Open.

She revealed that both the Williams sisters have very much been together by each other’s side from the very start and it will be interesting to see what Venus will decide after Serena retires. She added that “It’ll be interesting to see what Venus does now because I just can’t see one playing without the other. So Venus, of course, as always very low key, Venus will probably finish the last match and be like, yeah, by the way, that’s it. Like, you know, that sort of personality. You know, as I can see, Venus being like ‘Yeah, bye. That’s it. I’m done.

The Australian also did not deny the fact that this US Open will be historic since Serena Williams will be playing her final match and the atmosphere at Flushing Meadows will be totally different. She further added “New York probably has never been this loud for the US Open has never been this loud and enthusiastic to see a tennis player than this year, you know, with the retirement of Serena Williams. Nothing would make me happier to watch her win a lot of matches at the US Open because I think that would just be absolutely crazy
