Frances Tiafoe has had a good season so far. Tiafoe had a great grass season with a fourth-round finish in his maiden appearance at Wimbledon, losing to the experienced David Goffin in a thrilling five-set encounter. He finished as the runners-up at the Estoril Open and also made it to the second round of the Australian Open. He reached the third round at the Indian Wells Open, losing to Andrey Rublev, and made it to the fourth round of the Miami Open.

Tiafoe began his summer hardcourt tour at the Atlanta Open last week, when he was defeated by Jenson Brooksby in the semifinals. At the Citi Open, he had a bye in the opening round before playing fellow countryman Christopher Eubanks, where he came out on top to win the match 6-3, 7-6 (2). Tiafoe has reached the third round of the Citi Open where he will face Botic van de Zandschulp.

Frances Tiafoe believes that the lack of men’s singles grand slam champions recently has nothing to do with flags. He finds it easy because Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer have been playing too well lately. He recently answered a question in Washington by saying:

“Yeah, again, that question is asked so much. It’s like I don’t think it’s a flag issue. I think it’s a Novak, Rafa, Federer issue. You know, I mean, I think they are a big problem for everyone. I think we are all playing some great tennis. It’s only a matter of time. I mean, draws are opening up more and more. You know, I mean, I see someone making semi, final, maybe winning one next couple of years. Why not?”

He added that Reilly Opelka reached the final of the 2021 Canadian Open, a Masters 1000 tournament, while another American Taylor Fritz defeated Rafael Nadal in the final of the Masters Tournament at Indian Wells this year. Tiafoe added that he believes the younger talent will eventually advance as more and more draws become available.
