World No. 11 Emma Raducanu continues to struggle with injuries and early exits ever since she won the 2021 US Open. The title in New York was possibly one of the greatest underdog stories and the expectations from the Brit have increased ever since, but unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to replicate the success again.
Emma is 8-11 for the season and hasn’t won three matches on the trot so far this season. She has reached the quarter-finals only once this year while making 4 first-round exits and 3 second-round exits as well. She has been troubled with injuries as well which have resulted in three mid-match retirements for her also. While she had entered the WTA Tour after last year’s Wimbledon, she wasn’t dropping points which helped her reach the 11th spot in the rankings. However, with the 2022 Wimbledon about to start, she would need to fight for her rank as well.

Speaking about the spotlight on Raducanu, former World No. 1 John McEnroe talked about how things changed drastically for her within months as she first got global attention at the 2021 Wimbledon and capped it by winning the 2021 US Open.
“Athletes and tennis players are pretty superstitious people. So to qualify, win a major without losing the set, and then get rid of your coach, seems unusual, just from a superstitious point of view. She is a kid. She’s trying to grow up in front of the world and in front of people. And that can be difficult. It’s all happened so quickly. I don’t know if anyone could have possibly anticipated this would happen.
“There’s a high-interest level. It’d be good for her and her family and the sport if she finds something as soon as possible that she feels more relaxed and able to do her thing. As far as her health, I don’t know what her situation is physically. I know I saw her in Rome and she was struggling and it seemed like she was okay in Paris, physically. It obviously would be good for the game if she found her mojo again,” said McEnroe in comments reported by the Sun UK.
