Naomi Osaka, the 24-year-old Japanese professional is considered by many as one of the best players in the women’s circuit currently. She has not been in the best of forms this season and her season has been ridden by injuries as well as she suffered an Achilles heel injury in the French Open.
Making her comeback at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, Osaka faced off against Qinwen Zheng from China where she emerged victorious in a thrilling match as Osaka won the match in three sets to progress to the next stage of the event where she is scheduled to face Coco Gauff.

Former US Open champion, Naomi Osaka survived a thrilling encounter against Zheng in the first match of the Silicon Valley Classic where the former emerged victorious by 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The event is her first tournament since falling out of the French Open in the first round, Osaka hopes to have found her groove now as she progresses to the next round of the event.
In the post-match interview, Naomi Osaka said, “I have a lot of confidence in myself in third sets, I’m not sure if it’s subconscious or not but I do remember thinking it’s going to be hard for her to break me. Because I learned a lot from challenging that last ball in that game that I did get broken.“
Talking about Zheng, Osaka continued, “I think that’s one thing that I have above her is that I have a lot of experience. I’ve definitely played more matches than her, so it’s going to be interesting to watch her grow.“
After progressing to the next round, Osaka is scheduled to face Coco Gauff in the round of 16 of the event which is going to be a thrilling encounter, as Gauff won her match comfortably to book her place in the round of 16 of the tournament. Osaka will be looking to bag another victory and make it to the quarter-finals of the event.
