“It’s ok to say no” Coco Gauff recollects the ‘life-changing’ advice Michelle Obama gave her

Coco Gauff and Michelle Obama
American teen sensation Coco Gauff is one of the most talented WTA players on the tour and is projected to be the next big thing in women’s tennis. Recently, during the Billie Jean King Cup, she recalled the piece of advice that Michelle Obama, ex-President Barack Obama’s wife gave her.
Gauff represented Team USA at the Billie Jean King Cup this week but unfortunately, she couldn’t help her team make it to the semifinals. Team USA finished second in Group D and crashed out of the tournament after losing to the Czech Republican team. A few days ago, Gauff revealed that Michelle Obama told her that it’s ok to say no to things.
“Balancing tennis and life, there’s a lot going on,” Gauff said in an interview posted on the Billie Jean King Cup Twitter handle. “Michelle Obama told me: ‘It’s ok to say no to things.’”
Coco Gauff on how to react in bad moments

Gauff then revealed the piece of advice she would give her younger self. She then talked about being grateful for yourself and expressed her general gratitude.
“The piece of advice my younger self would give to me is: everything that you’ve worked for happened, and remember that what you prayed for then is happening to you now. It’s important that I remember that my younger self would be grateful. You want to push yourself, but I think you have to take a moment and accept it, and be grateful for yourself,” Gauff said.
The 18-year-old then spoke about life and how to deal with bad moments in it. She said that it is important for everyone to accept the bad moments, learn from them, and move on if one wants to succeed.
“You show your best and worst parts on the court, and I think that reflects life. Every person has their bad moments and I think in tennis you have to learn to accept those bad moments and move on if you want to win,” she said.
