Ivan Dodig claimed the Men’s Doubles title at the 2023 French Open alongside his partner Austin Krajicek. The duo defeated the Belgian pairing of Joran Vleigen and Sander Gille in straight sets, dropping just four games in the whole encounter. The Croatian-American dominated right from the onset, as the inexperienced Belgian pair had no answers.
Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek have had some close encounters during the course of the 2023 French Open. They came through two close three-setters in the quarterfinals and the semifinals. Following the emphatic victory, Dodig had a surprise or two in store for the authorities during his victory speech on Saturday.
Ivan Dodig accused the authorities of partial treatment and being treated like a tourist all throughout the tournament. The Croatian complained that during the last 15 days, he was forced to arrange for his own transport, which eventually delayed his practice sessions. He further expressed that he hopes the organizers do a better job handling this situation next year.
Ivan Dodig felt unhappy with unfair treatment at the 2023 French Open
Ivan Dodig stated that every player should be treated fairly, as he was unhappy with the fact that he was required to arrange for his own transport in Paris. “For 15 days I was traveling to this tournament with a taxi… coming late to warmup w/ my partner..I was waiting for taxi for 40 mins, I was very sad…this tournament should treat every player/champ how they deserve, hope next year you can do better,” said Dodig. “I was treated like a tourist,” he added.
However, according to the official rules and regulations stated by the French Open, only players staying in hotels within a 5km radius will be provided with transport. The rest of the players will have to arrange for their own transport. However, Ivan Dodig still decided to stay a bit far away from where the tournament is being held.
Nevertheless, Ivan Dodig and his partner have done a commendable job of winning the Men’s Doubles title. This is his seventh Grand Slam title and fourth title here in Paris. The Croatian has claimed two each titles in Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles Events at the French Open. His last Major title came at the 2021 Australian Open, when he claimed the title alongside Filip Polášek.
