As a regular contributor to Sky Italia’s tennis coverage, Ivan Ljubicic openly gives his thoughts on the young players making waves in the tennis world. During a discussion about the improvement of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, Ljubicic admitted that being surrounded by enthusiastic Italian supporters made it difficult for him to remain objective, especially given Sinner’s ethnicity.
Boris Becker, who worked alongside Ljubicic at Wimbledon, also chimed in, saying that Carlos Alcaraz had demonstrated more significant growth in the past year. Ljubicic, on the other hand, underlined that Sinner’s path to the top would be more steady. He implied that each player’s path would be unique and should be honored accordingly.
“It’s okay. Five years from now, most likely Alcaraz, Sinner, and Rune will be one, two, and three, with Medvedev probably still around, you know, making their lives tough. Maybe some guys will, you know, surprise us. But this is what it feels like at the moment,” Ljubicic said.
While fans and commentators anxiously await the arrival of this new ‘Big-3‘ Ljubicic acknowledges the existence of Daniil Medvedev. The Russian talent has continually pushed the established elite, skills will definitely help shape the future landscape of men’s tennis.
As the sport prepares for the next generation’s rise, the combination of Alcaraz, Sinner, Rune, and Medvedev is sure to produce intriguing rivalries and captivating matches on the world’s largest stages.
