Scottish marketing consultant James Melville, who enjoys a massive following on Twitter, recently came out in support of 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic over the Serb’s anti-vaccination stance that he took in order to prioritize his body.
Melville tweeted an old BBC video where Djokovic had famously remarked that he was willing to sacrifice playing in important tournaments, “because the principles of decision making on my body are more important than any title.”
Djokovic had landed in Melbourne early this year to compete in the Australian Open, while claiming that he had a medical exemption to compete in the tournament despite not being vaccinated.
However, he was later deported from Australia after widespread criticism over his stance and stiffening up of the tournament authorities from whom there was an obvious miscommunication. Djokovic also missed the US Open in 2022 because of existing vaccination requirements that he was unwilling to fulfill.
Novak Djokovic receives standing ovation at the European Association of Neurological Societies alongside speech address on mental resilience and health
Djokovic was invited to give a talk on the opening day of the Congress of the European Association of Neurological Societies held in Belgrade, Serbia which is his native place. As he walked into the room full of over 3000 neurosurgery experts, the Serbian legend received a standing ovation from the attendees.
Djokovic gave a talk and spoke about resilience and mental strength and even praised all the neuroscientists.
“When they asked me to come, I asked myself what I should talk about here when it is not my familiar field. But I realized that together we share a love for work, a passion. You are heroes for me, you save lives,“ said the former World No.1.
The Serb will next play at the Paris Masters where he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the finals last year to win his sixth title. He is also due to compete in the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.
However, a longer battle awaits ahead as the record nine-time Australian Open champion was not featured in the official poster released by the tournament on Twitter, and his chances of being allowed to compete reduced even further after Tennis Australia recently refused to lobby the Australian government for Djokovic’s case.
