Italian tennis player Jasmine Paolini has been in the spotlight lately after she defeated Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya in the final of the Dubai Open to win the tournament.
She is currently World No. 14 on the WTA points table and the highest-ranked Italian women’s tennis player in the world. In a recent interview, however, she credited Jannik Sinner with bringing the spotlight to female tennis players in Italy.
Jannik Sinner is arguably one of the most talented youngsters in tennis right now. He recently won the 2024 Australian Open after a sensational performance and is right now the fourth-ranked player on the ATP rankings.
His current ATP ranking is the highest ever achieved by any Italian tennis player, and thus the sport itself is booming in the country. And with that, people are indirectly being drawn to the female tennis players of Italy as well.
Behind my victory there is work that has been going on for years, but also the collective wave of these cr*zy months. Sinnermania made us change: Jannik brought tennis to Tg1 and also brought light to us girls. Before there wasn’t the right visibility, not even when the generation of Pennetta, Schiavone, Vinci and Errani won heavy tournaments. It is a question of culture: not just Italian, but of the world. But today the air we breathe has changed.Jasmine Paolini said. (Source: News Italy)
Paolini now has more ambitious goals, as she revealed. She wants to play in the ATP Finals and win a medal at the Olympics. In fact, the Italian has a good chance of winning a medal in the Olympics, at least in the mixed doubles event, if she teams up with Jannik Sinner.
Jannik Sinner recently won his second title of 2024 at the ATP Rotterdam
Jannik Sinner has been a simply unstoppable force lately. First, he won his first-ever Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open by registering unbelievable feats.
To name some, he defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinals in four sets and became the first-ever player to defeat the Serb in a semifinal match at the Happy Slam. He then pulled off a sensational comeback win over Daniil Medvedev in the final of the tournament after losing the first two sets and thus lifted the trophy.
He then continued his winning run at ATP Rotterdam as well. He defeated Gael Monfils, Milos Raonic, Tallon Griekspoor, and finally Alex de Minaur in the final to win the tournament.
Thus, his performance in 2024 so far has been literally perfect as he has won both the tournaments he participated in. He is now expected to drop a similar performance in the 2024 Indian Wells as well.
