Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner is making the right advances in his career as the 22-year-old has qualified for the 2023 ATP Finals and he is excited about it. Although it is Sinner’s second qualification for the year-end tournament, this is his first direct qualification as the Italian had entered the tournament as a replacement for Matteo Berrettini two years ago.

Now, having earned a direct qualification, the 22-year-old Italian is really excited to play at the tournament. Sinner says that it feels like incredible success for him and he cannot wait to play. The 2023 ATP Finals are scheduled to start on 12 November in Turin, Italy. The tournament will be played for one week with the finals scheduled for 19 November.

“It’s simply incredible to achieve this success, especially when you’re young. It’s a different feeling when you get into the official eight & I can’t wait to play… Two years ago, I had this opportunity but only because I replaced Matteo Berrettini who was injured. Now it’s totally different,” said the Italian (via ATP Podcast).

How had Jannik Sinner performed in his first ATP Finals?

This year would be Jannik Sinner’s second appearance at the ATP Finals. He made his maiden appearance at the 2021 ATP Finals when he filled in for an injured Matteo Berrettini. The latter retired during his first league match against Alexander Zverev. Sinner then came in and played against Hubert Hurcakz and Daniil Medvedev.

While the then 20-year-old Italian managed to beat Hurcakz in straight sets (6-2, 6-2), Sinner lost to Medvedev in a three-set thriller. Sinner lost 0-6, 6-7, 6-7 against the Russian ace. This meant that he would not qualify for the semifinals. The tournament was then won by Zverev who beat Medvedev in the final.

Nevertheless, while it was a surprise entry for Sinner two years back, he has well and truly earned his place this year. The Italian has won three titles in 2023 including an ATP Masters title which came in Canada. Sinner recently won the ATP 500 tournament in China on his debut when he beat Daniil Medvedev. The Italian will also play the Paris Masters before the ATP Finals.
