World No. 8 Jannik Sinner will play the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of this year’s Wimbledon Championship, with this being the first real task in the competition for both players. Last year, both the players met each other at the quarter-finals with Djokovic winning the match after trailing by two sets down. Sinner talked about the meeting and what he expects from the Serbian tomorrow in an exclusive interview with Eurosport’s Barbara Schett.

Last year, their clash was rated one of the best battles in the entire competition and it was extremely out of the world for Novak Djokovic to come back from going down against the Italian in the first two sets. When asked how much he has changed since the battle and what different he had done, Jannik Sinner said, “I am going to watch [last year’s quarter-final], knowing that it is going to be a completely different match because I am different but I feel like also he has improved.”

He added, “He is playing much better, so it’s going to be a very tactical match. Let’s see how the situation is going to be – if we play with the roof closed if it’s raining, if there is sun, if it’s windy, all these kinds of things. I’m very happy that I can face him again. It means a lot, many hours of work on the court and sacrifices, and it feels good.”

Since their last visit, a lot has changed with Novak Djokovic adding three more Grand Slaa to his name and Sinner adding a lot of experience and learnings from his past lessons.

This clash will be a great task for both players as neither of them has really faced much of a contest on their way to the semis up til this point. Both Djokovic and Sinner have only dropped two sets in the entire competition making this battle even more exciting and all the fans will be adamant about not missing it.

Both of them has met each other twice in their career with Djokovic emerging victorious in both of them, firstly at the Monte Carlo Masters when the scores read 6-4, 6-2, and then in last year’s Wimbledon Championships, when both the players battled each other for five hours with the Serbian clinching the match 5-7, 2-6, 6-3. 6-2, 6-2. But both players have improved massively since then and have studied each other’s strengths and weaknesses and this will no doubt be a great contest.
