World No. 4 Jannik Sinner was stunned by Ben Shelton in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters. However, this match was not without its incidents. In the heat of the match, Sinner hit his own racket against his knee, when returning a backhand. The Italian was on the perfect roll for the past few weeks. However, his streak came to an end when he was defeated by the American youngster Ben Shelton at the Shanghai Masters.

Jannik Sinner was in red-hot form when he entered the Shanghai Masters. Despite his fourth-round exit at the US Open 2023, the Italian entered the China Open in Beijing with complete determination. His efforts came to fruit when he defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final to win the China Open title. With this match, he registered his first win against the Russian after six matches.

The match between Sinner and Shelton was reaching a very high level of tennis. In one of these heated moments, Sinner hit his own knee with his racket when attempting to return a back hand. The spectators saw a limping Italian getting ready for the next point, still hurting from his self-inflicted accident. Nevertheless, the World No.4 player returned to the game to continue playing his best tennis.

In the fourth-round match against the American, Sinner failed to keep up his winning spree. With a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-7, the match was an absolute thriller. However, only one person could win and it was Shelton’s day. Nevertheless, Sinner’s performance in the match was nothing short of applaudable.

Ben Shelton advanced to the quarter-final match where he will be facing Sebastian Korda. This is the first time Shelton will be playing in the quarter-final of a Masters 1000 tournament. Both players will hope to play their best games if they want to defeat the other.
