Jannik Sinner has already established himself as one of the greatest Italian tennis players of all time after winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open. He is now breaking records and setting new ones in almost every tournament and that is exactly what he has done in the ongoing 2024 Indian Wells as well.

The 22-year-old defeated Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-3, 6-0 in straight sets in the second round of the 2024 Indian Wells and had faced no difficulty doing so at all. It almost felt like a walk in the park for the Australian Open winner and with this, he has won his 16th consecutive match. He has now equaled Adriano Panatta for the longest winning streak of an Italian player in the ATP.

This shows what good form the Italian is actually in. He is one of the favorites to win the ATP 1000 event for a reason. He dominated in the match against Kokkinakis from the very beginning. At one point, it seemed like the Australian was trying to make a comeback but Sinner made sure that it did not happen. In fact, he got a bagel in the second set.

Having received a direct entry to the Round of 64, this was Jannik Sinner’s first match in this tournament. It is currently unclear who he will face in the third round. He is the third seed in the tournament and all eyes are on him, especially considering the fact that he has been unbeaten in 2024 so far.

Jannik Sinner says it’s important to keep setting new goals

Jannik Sinner seemed all charged up after defeating Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round of the tournament. He talked about how one needs to keep on setting new goals constantly. “I think you always can set goal after goal. When you reach more goals, you try to work hard for the next goal. I feel I still have to improve many things. The serve I have to improve, trying to mix up the game. We worked before coming here in the gym because I need to grow. These are the kind of things that push me to do better. Hopefully I can show it on the court” he said.

Sinner will have to go up against the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev in order to win the 2024 Indian Wells. It will be interesting to see whether he is able to maintain his unbeaten record till the end of this tournament.
