Jannik Sinner has been one of the standout players in the last couple of years. The performances he has shown as a 22-year-old have been remarkable.
His amazing skillset and resilience have impressed tennis pundits all across the world. Even after a rough start to the 2023 season, Sinner made sure that he finished the year at a high, keeping his best for the ATP Tour Finals and the Davis Cup, in which he helped Italy lift the trophy, beating Australia in the finals.
In an interview with Eurosport, former Spanish tennis player Alex Corretja lauded the young Italian for taking the right steps early in his career.
I think Sinner is doing the right steps. He's been improving his game very much. It was very important to add different things, like his serve is huge, his forehand, his backhand, but also, he's slicing from time to time. He's coming more often to the net. He's doing some drop shots. This is a variation that he needed to be ready to win majors.Corretja said
The performances he provided in the semis of the Davis Cup, where he helped Italy beat Serbia, have to be the highlight of his 2023 season. Before the Davis Cup tournament, Sinner had lost to Novak Djokovic in the ATP Tour Finals. But the sheer display of composure he showed in the second round of the Davis Cup against Nole was extraordinary.
Jannik Sinner: The player to look for in the future
There is absolutely no doubt regarding the skillset of Jannik Sinner. He has a potent record to boast about against current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Sinner, till now in his career, hasn’t won a major Grand Slam, but he hopes that he can add one of them to his armory too next year.
Alex Corretja has remarked about the World No.4 that he will be winning Grand Slams in the next years.
If you only play a huge level of tennis, you're going to win maybe [against] 80% of the guys on tour, 85%. But there are some others that you won't beat if you don't have something different. In the interview with Eurosport Corretja said
You need something special to win majors. And I think Jannik, he's been working on that and it's paying off. He's ready and I think he will be ready to win a major. [In] ‘24, why not? If not, ’25, but I think he's going to be definitely100% ready.Corretja further added
With the 2024 season set to commence in January, it will be interesting to see how the Italian will perform in the next season. He hasn’t gone beyond the semifinals of a major Grand Slam. Sinner will hope that he can rectify it in the next season, starting with the Australian Open in January.
