Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner has revealed that he can beat the best players in the world. The Italian is oozing with confidence ahead of the Indian Wells.
Sinner’s form this season has been sky-high. The Italian defeated Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev to win his maiden major title at the Melbourne in January. Weeks later, he beat Alex de Minaur to win the Dutch ATP 500 in Rotterdam, losing just one set en route to the final.
The recent success has made Sinner climb to a career-high of No.3 in the ATP rankings. He is yet to lose a match this season, with a perfect record of 12-0 to start his BNP Paribas Open campaign.
During his press conference today, Sinner said that he never believed he could become a very incredible player and can now beat the best players in the world.
I never dreamt of becoming so good. It's something incredible. I come from a classic family where we mainly practice winter sports. 2-3 years ago, I didn't know it but I now know that I can produce great tennis and beat the best players in the world. I think I still have a lot to improve on. Whether it's physically, mentally, technically… It's a long road.Jannik Sinner said
Sinner is hoping to continue in his fine form at Indian Wells Masters. Also, he is hoping to topple his rival Carlos Alcaraz, the current World No.2, if he wins the California-based Masters title.
Carlos Alcaraz warns Jannik Sinner and others ahead of the Indian Wells start
Carlos Alcaraz has warned his contemporaries ahead of his Indian Wells title defense. The Spanish star defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to win last year’s edition of the BNP Paribas Open.
Despite struggles this season, the Spaniard is hoping he can pull an incredible form to defend his title. During a press conference, Alcaraz said he is willing to defend his title.
I am here to defend my title. I had a good tournament last year and I have good memories of it, but if I have to say one raising the trophy è without a doubt it was the most unforgettable one. We have all the best people here and some of them are playing really well. I know it will be really difficult but I am here to try. In training I felt good feelings.Alcaraz via Indian Wells press
He further added:
Maybe some people will be able to think about my ankle. We will see if I feel 100 percent or not, but I certainly feel better.
Alcaraz will begin his title defense when he plays Matteo Arnaldi in the second round of Indian Wells. The Spaniard is without a title this season, despite competing in three tournaments.
