It has been one of the most glorious mornings in the life of Jannik Sinner. The World No. 4 has just taken out defending champ and 10-time Australian Open title winner Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

The two were dueling for a place in the finals of the 2024 edition and it is the Italian who reaches the title decider. Sinner won the match 6-1, 6-2, 6-7(8), 6-3 after 3 hours and 22 minutes. Nole was on the verge of crashing out in straight-sets but managed to defend a match point in the third set’s tiebreaker.

Speaking to Jim Courier during his on-court interview, the Italian spoke about Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev as the two men will contest the second semi-final. The young gun did not specifically pick a favorite for the clash but admitted to surely watching the match.

I will watch it for sure. As I said, I’m a huge tennis fan. It’s good for me to watch it. I’m a bit more relaxed now. They’re such incredible players. They’ve met already so many times. It’s gonna be interesting. Sascha is back to playing 100%. He’s playing great. And also Daniil. Hopefully, it’s gonna be a great match. We’ll see what’s coming on Sunday.
said Sinner.

Zverev and Medvedev are scheduled for the second semi-final which will begin in the evening session of the day. It will be the only match on the Rod Laver Arena for the evening session and will certainly be a huge blockbuster.

Sinner fired 9 aces while conceding 1 double fault. Djokovic had 7 aces with 4 double faults of his own. While the Serb made 32 winners to the Italian’s 31, the defending champ also made more unforced errors, 54, as compared to Sinner’s 28.

The Italian created a total of 11 break point opportunities for himself converting 5 of those. For Djokovic, he was helpless as he failed to create a single breakpoint opportunity throughout the match, a rare failure for the Serb.

Coming to the net points, where Djokovic is often one of the best, Sinner converted 83% of his points while Nole managed only 78%. The fourth seed thus advanced to the Australian Open final with 128 points to his name, winning 30 more than the World No. 1.
