“The week didn’t start in the best possible way. I didn’t feel too good. In my mind, I told myself that every day can be a little different,” Sinner revealed in a press conference following his final-round match. Sinner, in his quarter-final match against Grigor Dimitrov, was seen putting his head inside a bin as he threw up at the start of the third set.

I am very happy with how I managed to handle every situation on the court throughout the whole week. I think that is what’s most positive of all,” he said in addition.

It is worth noting that the last three clashes between the two top seeds have all been at the finals. Medvedev had won the previous two battles between the duo. He has also ousted the 22-year-old six out of the seven times they have faced each other on court. Sinner thanked the Russian in his winning speech following his win at the China Open.

“Daniil, thanks for letting me win at least one match. We have had some very tough battles, especially this year. Thanks for making me a much better player,” Sinner said following his win. “I have been training a lot to beat you. My team are working a lot. Thank you very much and it is special to share this moment with you,” he added.

Addressing Sinner, Medvedev congratulated him and his team. “I’d like to congratulate Jannik and his team for being third-time lucky. Third final this year between us this year,” the Russian said as he congratulated the Italian for winning his (Jannik’s) first final-round match against him. Medvedev called Jannik ‘third time lucky’ following his victory in the third final match between them. However, the former US Open champion said that Sinner played an extremely good game in the final.
