Jannik Sinner became the hindrance to Novak Djokovic‘s record 25th Grand Slam title. On Friday (January 27), Sinner stunned the tennis world when he defeated Djokovic in a stellar display at the Rod Laver Arena.

Sinner got the upper hand in the first set itself, for Djokovic lost it 1-6. The Italian continued to dominate in the second set also, not allowing the Serb to win more than two games.

Needing just a set to win, Sinner had to wait for a while, for Djokovic tied the set to force it into the tie-breaker, winning it 7-6(8-6). The 22-year-old then knocked out the Serb after securing the fourth set, winning with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7(6-8), 6-3.

After the match, Sinner was told by an interviewer during the press conference about a bizarre stat. The interviewer pointed out how Sinner defeated Djokovic exactly 2,195 days after his last defeat at the Australian Open, the same as Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. Notably, Alcaraz had defeated the Serb 2,195 days after his last defeat at Wimbledon, in 2023.

(Laughter.) If it would be that easy, just watch some numbers. But no, obviously I don't know really what to answer on that. I watched the match of Carlos. It was an incredible match there. Yeah, I don't know what to say. (Laughter.)
