Italian tennis ace Jannik Sinner has addressed all the talks around the beginning of a new era in tennis. As Sinner recently clinched his maiden Grand Slam title and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz has already won two Grand Slam titles, there is a debate around whether the change of guards has taken place and if these two players are the future of men’s tennis.

Sinner dismissed such claims and reminded everyone that there are other good players on the tour as well. The Italian named Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and Holger Rune as the players who also have the potential to win Grand Slam titles.

Sinner said that it is difficult to predict the future. He also stated that all these players are different in their skillset and mentality and, hence, it makes the future interesting.

It's difficult to say because there are very good players. It is impossible to predict the future because anything can happen. There are many young players who are playing at a high level, we also have Daniil Medvedev and Sascha.

It is true that Carlos and I are the youngest, along with Holger. Each one is different both at the game level and mentally. And that is the beautiful thing to see, that we are not the same and that each one is different from the other. The future is going to be interesting.

Sinner was also asked about his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune and if the competition has helped him become a better player. The 22-year-old admitted that it has helped but denied attributing all of his evolution to the competitiveness with these two players.

Sinner said that there are many players who pose a challenge to him. The youngster then talked about the importance of defeats. Sinner said that they also serve a purpose and help a player to get better. 

Of course, but not only because of these two players. There are others who create problems for you and you have to find solutions to beat them. I must be prepared to face any opponent and that makes you want to be more complete. Defeats also serve to realize that. I have worked hard in recent months to be better and I know that in the coming months, there will be difficult moments.

Notably, Jannik Sinner enjoys a great rivalry with Alcaraz and Rune. While Sinner leads the Spanish ace 4-3, the 2024 Australian champion trails 1-2 to Holger Rune. Against Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev, Sinner’s head-to-head record stands at 1-4 and 4-6, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Italian has improved his record against Novak Djokovic as it stands at 3-4. The Italian has won three out of their last four matches. Now, it is to be seen how does Sinner winning his maiden Grand Slam title changes the equation of the ATP tour.
