World No. 2 and tournament favorite Novak Djokovic has kept his dreams alive of a fifth successive Wimbledon title after he set the Centre Court on fire today beating young sensation Jannik Sinner. Djokovic will now be facing the World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday for what will be a match to cherish for all the tennis fans out there.
Novak Djokovic won the match without dropping a single set by 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4), amazing every single one present in the stadium. But the incident that attracted the focus of the whole world was when both players battled together producing an intensive rally.
During the rally, when Djokovic returned the ball, Sinner made an extensive approach to return the ball. But before he could hit the ball, the umpire awarded the point to the Italian.
Novak Djokovic was disappointed and unhappy with this decision and he argued with the umpire asking him for clarifications. Sinner talked about this in the post-match conference saying, “Yeah, it’s a call of the umpire, no? Obviously, he hit the ball already, and then after he was shouting quite long and with the volume up. I came there, obviously, I was quite focused about the ball. But, yeah, players, we do this when we are quite sure we win the point with this shot. Also, like, I don’t know, Bublik against Andrey in the last game, it was similar, no? Yeah, that’s it.”
What was Novak Djokovic’s take on the incident?
Novak Djokovic wasn’t happy with the hindrance call going in favor of his opponent and he urged the umpired for stating the reason behind the decision. He asked for clarifications and after winning the match he was asked to comment back on the incident to which he replied, “The hindrance early on in the match could have changed the course of the match. I felt nervous after that call, but I managed to re-group.”
He added, “It’s probably the first time it’s happened to me, I don’t normally have extended grunts. Maybe it was an echo in the roof. It was a call that I have to respect.”
Novak Djokovic didn’t think hard about losing this point after such a dominating performance against a player who had hardly put a foot wrong in the entire tournament. He will be buzzing with confidence and look to lift the golden trophy eventually making it five in a row.
