Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner has decided to withdraw from the Marseille Open after recently winning the 2024 Australian Open. The youngster won his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and wants to rest and avoid injury now, due to which he has decided not to take part in the ATP 250 event.
This will be the second back-to-back year when the World No. 4 will miss the Marseille Open after signing up for the event. The organizers are currently in search of a replacement for the top seed to keep the tournament equally exciting even after the Italian’s absence.
Alexander Zverev is one of the first names that has emerged as a potential replacement for Sinner. The Marseille Open will take place between February 5 and February 11.
Sinner will next take part in the 2024 Rotterdam Open. It is an ATP 500 event, and the Italian faced Daniil Medvedev in the final of the tournament in 2023. Thus, he would want to win it this time around before stepping into the Rio, Doha, Qatar, and Acapulco Opens. It will prove to be a great practice tournament for the Italian and will be much more competitive.
Players like Hubert Hurkacz, Grigor Dimitrov, Karen Khachanov, Ugo Humbert, and Lorenzo Musetti will also take part in this tournament as seeded players. It will be soon announced whether Alexander Zverev will join the tournament as Sinner’s replacement. If it doesn’t happen, the Marseille Open will be a pretty lackluster tournament.
Jannik Sinner registered a sensational victory over Daniil Medvedev to win his first Grand Slam title
Sinner made history on Sunday as he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2024 Australian Open. The Italian player made a sensational comeback after losing the first two sets and became the first-ever men’s Italian player to win the Australian Open, which is in itself a great achievement.
The Italian defeated a number of records in his campaign. He became the first player to defeat Novak Djokovic in a semi-final match and he did that too in just four sets.
Sinner has been performing pretty consistently for the past few months and his maiden Grand Slam victory was pretty well deserved. In fact, this was the third consecutive time that Sinner beat Daniil Medvedev in final. Earlier, he defeated the Russian in the final of the 2023 China Open and the 2023 Vienna Open.
