American tennis star Jessica Pegula has simply turned the table in her favor in the last couple of months. Having started the year slowly, the American were not getting the right results despite a good start in every single tournament. Her first title came at the Canadian Open in Montreal, where she beat fellow doubles partner Coco Gauff on the way to the silverware.
Recently, in an interview with Forbes, Pegula made a great comparison between her partnership with Coco Gauff and that of the Williams sisters. Though Pegula and Gauff have been regarded as the top seed in almost all the doubles tournaments they have played this year, Pegula feels that they are a long way off from the success accomplished by Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

Pegula also stated that by no means any current American player can reach the landmark that Serena Williams had set. Likewise, she also revealed that it has sometimes gotten too hectic for a young teenager like Gauff to reach that level of expectations. Pegula said:
I don’t think anyone can fill Serena’s shoes. Having other top Americans there definitely helps because I couldn’t imagine being the only American.
She concluded by saying that she loves getting near some of the records set by Serena Williams and being called out for that. She added:
Someone like Coco has a lot of pressure on her as far as being regarded as the next Serena or Venus. I don’t really see that as a role I have to fill. But it’s pretty cool when I can say ‘I’ve won this many hardcourt matches, it hasn’t been done since Serena.’ Having little stats like that is really cool.
Jessica Pegula talks about her performances alongside Coco Gauff
Jessica Pegula seemed proud when she talked about the accomplishments she has achieved alongside Coco Gauff in the last couple of months. The tennis professional also talked about how special it feels sometimes to be called in the same line as the Williams sisters. She said:
2 Americans haven’t been in the semis in both singles & doubles since Serena & Venus. That’s really really cool & something I don’t think I ever expected to see.

That’s not all; as per the 29-year-old herself, despite having an age gap of about 10 years with Gauff, they have been able to link up quite well, finding that perfect rapport between each other.
She concluded by saying that the Grand Slam record set by the Williams sisters is something that she doesn’t have her mind on but would love to see some of the stats compared from time to time.
