“Bagled on your birthday,” Jessica Pegula turns to humor after exiting from Dubai on her special day

American tennis star Jessica Pegula lost to Barbora Krejčíková in the semifinal of the Dubai Tennis Championship. The three-set defeat coming on her birthday made the day disappointing for the 29-year-old. She was hoping to make the day special but the Czech had some other plans.

After the Dubai exit, Pegula resorted to humor while waiting to get on a 16-hour flight back home. She got herself a bag of Doritos and tried to forget the loss in the WTA 1000 event. Pegula posted about the same on social media in a hilarious manner.

Me: gets bagled on your birthday, sitting eating Doritos at midnight, waiting to get on a 16 hr flight home,” Pegula posted with an emoji.

On a serious note, World No. 3 reflected on her performance during the last couple of weeks. “In all seriousness. Proud of my efforts over the past two weeks. Time for some rest. Thank you,” her caption read.

The 29-year-old Pegula has had a good 2023 campaign. She started by leading his American team to victory in the inaugural United Cup title. In the last few events, she has been performing consistently, reaching the later stages of the tournaments. But a singles title is still eluding her.

Pegula reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 Australian Open, where she was defeated by Victoria Azarenka. Then in the Qatar Open, she fell short of world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, losing in straight sets. She entered the Dubai Tennis Championship with a lot of expectations, but there too, her run was cut short by Barbora Krejčíková.

Now, she will compete in Indian Wells and Miami, where she will try to continue the strong run. But not before taking some much-needed rest. Despite the lack of titles in the ongoing season, Pegula will be among the favorites in the USA leg of the WTA calendar.
