“I don’t believe them for a second,” John Lloyd subtly BASHES ‘two-faced’ Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for claiming they don’t chase records while saluting Novak Djokovic’s authenticity

The duo of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were hit with some harsh words from John Lloyd. The Briton, however, praised Novak Djokovic during his latest interview, calling the Serb honest and truthful. With Djokovic now a winner of 23 Majors, the GOAT debate is once again heating and Lloyd might just have made his pick.
“One of the things I do love about Novak is that he has said he was chasing the record and it meant a lot to him. Whereas, much as I loved Rafa and Roger, they were saying that they weren’t really concerned about breaking the record and blah blah blah. And I don’t believe that for one second. I’m sorry to say that but I don’t. I think Novak is the one that’s telling the truth. Every player wants records. This is what they live for,” said Lloyd, speaking with Tennis Channel.
The discussion came to the fore as host Mitch Michals praised the Serb for his title at the 2023 French Open. Lloyd agreed with the host, but not before praising both Federer and Nadal for their skills and flair on the court. However, when it came to setting and chasing records, it was Djokovic who was spared by Lloyd.
Lloyd is a former British Davis Cup captain and also a three-time Grand Slam winner in the Mixed Doubles. He partnered with Australian Wendy Turnbull for all four of his Grand Slam finals. The pair won the 1982 French Open but lost at Wimbledon in the finals that year. They, however, came back in 1983 to win the Championships before successfully defending it in 1984 as well.

Novak Djokovic’s chase for records to continue at Wimbledon
With two out of two Majors won by Novak Djokovic this year, he is again in the hunt for the Calendar Slam. Achieved by only Rod Laver in the men’s singles in the Open Era, Nole came very close to accomplishing it in 2021. He, however, lost the US Open finals against Daniil Medvedev, missing out on the feat.
This year, he can again target it, as he will be the four-time defending champion at Wimbledon. He has already hinted at the Championships being the only grass event he plays to maintain freshness and have proper workload management. A win in Wimbledon will see him win the Channel Slam as well as Surface Slam this season.
Channel Slam denotes winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same season. The etymology comes from the English Channel that separates France and England. The Surface Slam is winning a Major on each surface: hard court, clay court, and grass court. A win in Wimbledon will also see him match eight-time champ Roger Federer for most titles at the All England Club with Federer leading Nole by 1 title.
