The second day of the Laver Cup concluded and Team World is completely dominating Team Europe with a lead of 8 points. After just losing a single match from the eight games that have been played until now, John McEnroe was extremely pleased and delighted with the performance of his players. Team World finished off the day with 10 points compared to 2 points of Team Europe.
Despite the likes of Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz being in the team who have had a great year having a lot of success on tours, Team World has not allowed the European starboys to settle in. After impressive singles wins from Felix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton, and Francisco Cerundolo on Day 1, it was now down to America’s top two stars to get the job done.
Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe repaid the trust that captain, McEnroe implied in them thereby winning their respective singles matches over Taylor Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz respectively. John McEnroe looked happy after the end of the second day saying, “These guys have stepped up. There is not a single guy out of the six that hasn’t picked up a point for us,”
John McEnroe opens up about his captaincy duties at the Laver Cup
A legend of the sport, McEnroe needs recognition when it comes to his contribution to the sport after having given so much to the game both as a player and as a fan. A man like John is in love with the sport and never misses an opportunity to get himself tied to the game whether be it commentator duties or duties as a coach in tournaments like the Laver Cup.
McEnroe recently shared in the press conference how he takes this captaincy duty at the tournament. He talked about how every single one of his players representing Team World has their personal coaches and he doesn’t like interfering in between. He believes that their personal coaches know them better than he does and only likes to pass on advice if he feels that it can have an everlasting impact on the game of that very player.
