Justine Henin is in no mood to excuse Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune for withdrawing from the doubles discipline in the Monte-Carlo Masters. Both the players signed up for both singles and doubles events at Monte-Carlo. In fact, the American and Dane are participating in the doubles discipline in this competition as a pair.

However, now since both reached the semi-finals in singles event, they decided to forfeit their Quarter-final doubles round match as a pair citing physical health problems. With their sudden withdrawal Croatian-American pair of Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek got a walkover into the semi-final round of the tournament.

“I don’t find it terrible because we didn’t see any physical problem whatsoever. We know that it happens like that, that there are players who claim to have a physical problem. Then there may be something we haven’t seen either, but I’m a little dubious,” Justine Henin said in a recent interview.

You have to have a certain respect for the doubles competition otherwise you won’t register. But also respect for the opponents, the tournament. A fairly common practice? Yes, but I still don’t like it. I understand, they are in the semi-finals in singles but then do we have to register for the doubles? Afterwards, again, there is perhaps something that has completely escaped us. We give the benefit of the doubt,”the seven-time Grand Slam champion continued.
