Former World No.1 Justine Henin, recently took to an interview to question the intent of Daniil Medvedev against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. The Russian succumbed to Alcaraz in his last match of the round-robin matches, leaving Henin questioning his fighting spirit.

The second negative point is a disappointing Daniil Medvedev. I'm not going to say that Medvedev was absent but he didn't know how to stay in the fight. Some people manage it in other ways. When we heard his words, we felt his questioning but it was less convincing than if we had had to hear a Sinner on this question.

The Belgian former pro further added:

Obviously, Carlos Alcaraz was also incredibly determined. He made the difference by increasing the pressure at certain moments in this match; he was also helped by a less incisive, less combative Daniil Medvedev.

Despite declaring his intentions against Alcaraz, the Russian struggled to match the spirit of the 20-year-old. Medvedev stood no chance against the youngster as he lost 6-4,6-4 in straight sets which placed him second on the group table. He now faces the green group table topper Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals.

Showcasing good sportsmanship, Medvedev credited Alcaraz for improving since they last met.

Carlos hits volleys like maybe two or three players can do. He came to the net 50 times at the US Open and lost.

Medvedev now faces the table topper of the other group, Jannik Sinner, in the semi-finals. Both the players have a good record on hard courts and promise their match to be an interesting one. Sinner is undefeated at the tournament and it is to be seen if the Russian can end this streak.
