Karen Khachanov clinches his first title of the season

Karen Khachanov did not have a great start to the 2024 season as he bowed out in the second round of the first tournament he played. Khachanov was ousted from the Hong Kong Open after a defeat to Emil Ruusuvuori. Nevertheless, Khachanova had a good run at the 2024 Australian Open.

The 27-year-old Russian reached the quarterfinals before he was defeated by eventual champion Jannik Sinner. Khachanov continued his good run at the Marseille Open as the Russian made it to the semifinals. He was defeated by Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinal of the ATP 250 event.

After Marseille, Khachanov flew to Doha to take part in the ATP 250 event and it paid off as he ended up as the champion. The 27-year-old had a good run on the way to the final. While Khachanov got a bye in the first round, the Russian beat Fabian Marozsan in the second round.

In the third round, Khachanova was pitted against Ruusuvuori but the Finnish tennis player retired after losing the first three games of the first set. This meant Khachanov would face Alexei Popyrin in the semifinal and it worked out well for him as the Russian beat Popyrin 7-6, 6-2.

In the final, Khachanov came clean against Czech Jakub Mensik. The 27-year-old was in a similar position as the semifinal in the first set and Khachanova ensured that it ended the same way. He clinched the set in the tiebreaker and then the match.
