Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes the sporting world has ever seen. She is considered to be the pioneer of change in women’s tennis and is credited to have popularized the sport like no one else. Serena announced a few weeks ago that she would retire from tennis after the ongoing US Open citing her age and change in priorities.

Serena, who proudly flaunts her identity as a strong black woman, has won 23 major titles in her career and is popular amongst her fellow athletes from different sports. She is friends with top athletes, who are considered to be the respective GOATs of their sport like Lewis Hamilton, Tiger Woods, and LeBron James.

The 40-year-old American faced Danka Kovinic in the first round of the 2022 US Open- her farewell tournament. Serena looked a bit rusty at the start of the match but after a few games, she picked momentum on her serve and closed out the set convincingly 6-3. The crowd roared after Serena converted the match point and stayed alive to delay her retirement for at least one more match.
