The first round of the US Open 2023 has stirred the controversy pot right away. A certain drama took place in the match between German’s Laura Siegemund and America’s Coco Gauff. During the match, Siegemund hurled back at the chair umpire after receiving a point penalty for being too slow to Coco Gauff‘s serve. “I go one time to the towel, one time on her serve,” she defended.

She also said the American was being too fast, and that she has never “gone to the towel” in her serve. While the German claims that this was not a frequent occurrence and that it happened only once, Gauff responded that this act of Siegemund’s was slowing down her service game.
