Nick Kyrgios
Nick Kyrgios had a great grasscourt season as he made it to the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championship after he received a walkover after Rafael Nadal‘s withdrawal due to injury. He gave a tough competition in his maiden final appearance but lost to the eventual winner Novak Djokovic.Continuing with his fabulous performance at Wimbledon, he went on to clinch his 7th ATP title and the first singles title of the year at the Citi Open where he defeated Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets getting a good start to the hard-court season.
But his dream run with his performances got a setback when he lost in the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open to Hubert Hurkacz followed by another defeat against Taylor Fritz in the second round at the Cincinnati Open in straight sets within an hour of play. He has already won 31 out of his 40 matches this year and will be looking to continue his great form. He also clinched the doubles title at the Citi Open with his partner Jack Sock defeating Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek in straight sets.
“Young Kygs in NY” Nick Kyrgios hopeful of having a great season at the US Open
After his loss at Cincinnati, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist updated his fans announcing his arrival in style in New York ahead of the US Open which starts on 29 August. On his social media account on Instagram, Kyrgios shared a story of his younger self from his previous appearances at Flushing Meadows. He sent out a message that he is ready for the upcoming challenges and is looking forward to the tournament. The story was captioned “Young Kygs in NY. Let’s turn this s**t back.“
Kyrgios hasn’t had great records at the US Open as he has not been able to go past the third rounds in all his appearances. But with his consistent performances this year, he would be a favorite going into the tournament in New York. He will be looking to end the year on a high and will be eager to try his luck at reaching another final with the hope of winning his first singles Grand Slam title.
Apart from being a fantastic player, he often fails to control his emotions on the court and resorts to bashing racquets, verbal spats with umpires, and sometimes even spectators. He has been fined and given multiple warnings regarding his aggressive and disrespectful nature. He has often been criticized for his behavior and even some claim that if he gets a hold over his emotions, he could be a great player with his unique style of playing.
