Leylah Fernandez reveals ‘this’ special reason to go deep in the Madrid Open as her favorite Football team set to play a do-or-die match next week

Leylah Fernandez and Real Madrid

Leylah Fernandez was the surprise finalist last year at the US Open. She defeated 4 former World No.1s en route her maiden grand slam final and ever since then, has been under constant attention. But the Canadian hasn’t delivered yet as promised. She started the 2022 season on a very poor note and lost her opening match at the Australian Open.

But she was quick to get back on her feet by winning the title in Monterrey last month. She also made it to the Round of 16 at Indian Wells but lost her opening match at Miami.

The start to her clay court season hasn’t been ideal either. She lost her opening match at Charleston but has played some solid tennis this week in Madrid. She defeated Andrea Petkovic in three sets 6-1,1-6,6-4 in the first round of the Madrid Open and will now face Jil Teichmann in the second round on Sunday.
