21-year-old Lorenzo Musetti is a rising star in the world of tennis, and he is already drawing comparisons to some of the all-time greats. The young Italian is known for his elegant style of play and his ability to hit winners from all over the court.
In a recent interview with Tennis TV, Musetti stated that despite Novak Djokovic’s recent dominance on grass, Roger Federer remains his favorite grass court player. “I always see Roger as the greatest ever on grass. Even if [Novak] Djokovic, the last couple of years, he has done an amazing job and I think for sure he is the favorite now, especially at Wimbledon, but my heart is with Roger [Federer],” he confessed.
Musetti explained that he admires Federer’s ability to control the ball on grass. He also admitted to imitating Federer’s groundstrokes, renowned for their elegance and sharpness. “In a certain way, he reminds me a little of my game and I am trying to imitate him and try to see him as a teacher,” the Italian said.
Musetti, however, also acknowledges Novak’s dominance on the surface and on the tour in general. He believes that at the end of their careers, Novak will finish with the most Grand Slam titles. “If the question is about who will end up winning the most, I would say Djokovic. He is in good shape and I think he will win a few more Grand Slam titles,” he says.
Federer has won eight Wimbledon titles, more than any other player in history. He also holds the record for winning the most grasscourt titles in the open era, at 19. He, along with Swedish legend Bjorn Borg, is one of two players to win Wimbledon five consecutive times.

Lorenzo Musetti’s grass court season so far
Musetti began his grass court season at the Stuttgart Open in Germany. He reached the quarterfinals there, losing to eventual champion Frances Tiafoe. Musetti is currently competing at the ATP 500 at Queen’s Club Championships. He won his first round against Brit Jan Choinski and will play American Blake Shelton next.
It is interesting to note that despite his rank and presence on the tour, he is yet to record a win at the Slam level. It will be interesting to see how Lorenzo Musetti’s career will turn out to be, and whether he will give justice to his obvious talent.
Musetti is only 21 years old, so he has plenty of time to develop his game and reach his full potential. He has won 2 titles on Tour already, including an ATP 500 title at the Hamburg Open 2022 against Carlos Alcaraz.
