Lorenzo Sonego has been having a tough time and not being able to win matches has been a concern for him. At the ATP250 Tour in Kitzbuhel, he lost the first-round match against Pablo Andujar in a thriller three-set match. Sonego after losing the first set went to win the second set giving a tough competition to his opponent. He is a fierce and aggressive player who often goes out of control and does something or other in a fit of rage completing disrupting his game confidence and tempo.
Prior to the match, Sonego and Pablo’s head-to-head standings were tied at 1-1. Sonego is seeded 9th in the tournament losing to a player with a rank much below him did not go well with the Italian player. In Wimbledon this year, he had a bit of a serious discussion at the net with Rafael Nadal during his match and it turned ugly as he accused the Spaniard of distracting him. With this loss, he has lost three matches in a row.
Lorenzo Sonego’s act is totally unacceptable and stupid
There have been many instances where players are not able to control their emotions during the play and resort to ways to let go of their anger. Some throw racquets and some start arguing with the linesman or the chair umpire or the audience. This time it was Lorenzo Sonego who was in the headlines for his stupid act which did not go down well with the audience as well as the viewers.
With the loss against Andujar, Sonego could not control his emotions after losing a point in the match, got angry, and did something which is not acceptable and is appreciated at all. He was frustrated with the way the match had turning out and in the third tie-breaker set. He is in a fit of rage threw his racquet and smashes it to the ground. After that hard smash, it bounced back into the air. As Sonego was very much in anger, without any thought kicked his racket as if it was a football, not a racquet. It might have been a reaction in a moment but thankfully it did not happen anything serious. This irked everyone as it might have hurt the player and called it an act of stupidity.
