World No. 4 and the second seed at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Rafael Nadal, advanced into the 4th round of the Grand Slam after defeating Lorenzo Sonego in straight-sets. Nadal defeated the Italian 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 picking his first straight-set win of this year’s Wimbledon after having dropped a set in each of his first two matches.

The win takes Rafa into the 4th round for the 10th time in his 15th appearance at the Grand Slam as he remains on course for winning his third major of the season after clinching wins in the Australian Open and the French Open. As for Sonego, he continues to wait for his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final after being denied by Roger Federer in the 4th round last year and by Nadal this year.

While Nadal is not often involved in controversies, he found himself in the middle of one after yesterday’s match. Often cited as one of the best examples of sportsmanship, Nadal had a rare poor occasion of flouting rules during the match against Sonego. With Sonego grunting during the points, Nadal called the Italian to the net halting the match momentarily and the two had a little ‘discussion’ on the net as the chair umpire watched. While the play resumed shortly after, fans were angry over Nadal not being penalised for it.
