“Love it when the bad guy loses” Iga Swiatek mocked on social media after losing in the finals of the Ostrava Open

Iga Swiatek, the world number one is considered to be one of the upcoming female athletes in the sport who has been able to make her place with her spectacular performances especially after winning two Grand Slam singles titles in the year. She was undefeated in the clay court season where she won six titles including her title win at the French Open until her quarter-final exit at the Poland Open.
Swiatek had managed to make her way into another final of the year where she had been aiming at another WTA Title win but faced a shocking defeat in the finals losing in three sets 7-5, 6-7(4),3-6 by the 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova who won her consecutive second WTA title. This loss also marked Swiatek’s second loss in a WTA final.
Prior to the finals, Swiatek had won 21 consecutive sets in the WTA Tour finals which got ended with her loss and even ended her streak of 10 consecutive finals she had won in the last few years. The Polish had been playing some fantastic level of tennis and tried to save five championship points but the local Czech player held her nerves to take the trophy home.

Iga Swiatek defeated Ons Jabeur in the finals of the 2022 US Open in straight sets to win her third Grand Slam singles title and her maiden US Open title despite her inconsistent performances in the buildup tournaments to the US Open. She became the first Polish woman to win the US Open. She has maintained her rank as the world number one since Ashleigh Barty‘s sudden retirement.
With Swiatek’s loss at the Ostrava Open, people on social media were quite shocked and in disbelief. Some even stated the fact that despite both players putting up a great fight, the Polish failure was long due and credited the local player for a fantastic win. Some even broke down with the loss while some even criticized her for not being able to cross the line even after winning the first set and being unable to save championship points.
