Maria Sakkari splits up with coach Tom Hill ahead of Indian Wells and Miami
Maria Sakkari splits up with coach Tom Hill after six years.

After the 2024 Australian Open, the tennis world faced split-ups between the players and the coaches. After Holger Rune’s worst split-up so far, it was WTA star Maria Sakkari who announced a split-up with her coach, Tom Hill.
After working for six years together, Hill created a Sakkari that the world knows now. Coming close to winning the Grand Slam, they have been together for the whole ride. Despite Hill not speaking Greek, he became very close to the tennis star and her family.

Their special bond was featured in multiple episodes of the Netflix show “Break Point,” where Hill was seen cheering on Sakkari at her lows and standing by her side no matter what. Withstanding all the curses directed at him during a Sakkari match, the coach continued to console the Greek star every time and pushed her to do better.
Under the coaching of Hill, the Greek star reached a career-high ranking of World No. 3, won a WTA 1000, and even went 125 consecutive weeks in the Top 10.
However now, unfortunately, it was time for the two, and they went their different ways. Sakkari had left her coach a very emotional message on Instagram, expressing her gratitude.
Tom, Thank you for all the emotions, the support on and off the court, and the belief you had in me since day one. We grew together, and you helped me realize that everything is possible. Not only did you make me a better tennis player, but you also made me a better person. Thank you for always wanting the best for me and for always having my back! Good luck on the next chapter in your career.Sakkari posted on Instagram
Tom Hill also shared a couple of kind words for Maria Sakkari, as the two split up after six years
Maria Sakkari and Tom Hill were once a deadly duo. With Hill’s coaching style, he had created a dangerous Maria Sakkari, who was very consistent on tour.

Together, they have achieved new heights and established Sakkari’s name in the ranking system. Unfortunately, the two have split up after six years. Hill revealed this information in an Instagram post, where he thanked Sakkari for being on the amazing journey and promised to remain close friends.
Thank you, Maria, for the amazing journey. I’m excited about what the future holds for you! Pame!Hill posted on Instagram.
The reason for the split-up is still unknown, but it happened before the Indian Wells and Miami WTA 1000, where the two had immense success.
Nonetheless, Sakkari continues on her journey, which did not get off to a great start in 2024. After a disappointing second-round exit at the Australian Open, she faced continuous first-round losses at both Abu Dhabi and the Qatar Open. With hopes of getting back to her winning ways, a new Maria Sakkari will be seen on the court with a new coach.
