Marion Bartoli claims Carlos Alcaraz has ‘0 chances’ of reaching the 20 Grand Slam as it is not ‘realistic’ for the World No. 1

Carlos Alcaraz and Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion, Marion Bartoli, recently made some big claims about the chances of the 2022 US Open winner and current World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz just won his maiden major at age 19 at the US Open but the Frenchwoman, speaking on the Match Point podcast, said the Spaniard can’t match the Big-3.
“I think there is absolutely zero chance that anyone ever – not only Carlos Alcaraz – will reach the bar of 20 or more [Grand Slams]. I think what the three guys have been achieving over those years is out of normality and I don’t think anyone can replicate it. Carlos’s achievement at the US Open was amazing, but I don’t think it’s realistic to set the bar for him at 20 and over,” said Bartoli.
Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest World No. 1 by winning the 2022 US Open

Alcaraz was the 3rd seed at the US Open and went on to win the title after defeating Casper Ruud in the finals. Ruud suffered his second defeat to Alcaraz having earlier lost in the finals of the 2022 Miami Masters. The winner of the finals was guaranteed the World No. 1 spot and Alcaraz claimed it.
Alcaraz broke Lleyton Hewitt‘s record of becoming the youngest World No. 1. While it is believed to be the first of many majors for Alcaraz, the question of matching the Big-3 for Grand Slam tally will always be like a hanging sword above the teenager who is looked upon as the flagbearer for tennis.
Bartoli‘s statements also make sense in a way as no active player has more than 4 Grand Slam titles. Alcaraz can certainly counter her claims as he has already shown his class on clay and hard courts. With the refining of his game on grass, he can certainly make himself a favourite on that surface as well.
With the next Grand Slam being the 2023 Australian Open, Alcaraz has enough time to solidfy his position as the World No. 1 and prepare for the major eyeing his second straight Grand Slam title and keep moving towards the record of Big-3.
