Czech star Marketa Vondrousova did the unthinkable as she cruised past the Tunisian World No.6 Ons Jabeur in straight sets in the Wimbledon final. The final score was 6-4, 6-4. The odds were against her as Jabeur was in great form and came into the final beating one of the tournament favorites, Aryna Sabalenka, in the semi-finals. The unseeded Czech Vondrousova wanted to dedicate her maiden Grand Slam win to her husband Stepan Simek.

Vondrousova said, “Tomorrow is the first anniversary of our wedding, That’s the present!” The overwhelmed Czech Republican was high on emotions, as expected after the great battle on the green turf. Vondrousova’s sister’s video with teary eyes before her serving for the championship point was a clear indication of how big and unthinkable the victory was.

Besides Marketa Vondrousova’s winning performance, there were a lot of people sympathizing with Ons Jabeur’s downfall as she admitted that this is the most painful defeat of her career. Marketa Vondrousova’s tattoos are one of the major talking points whenever she steps on the court.

The Czech World No.42 Marketa Vondrousova was playing her first Grand Slam final since the 2019 French Open final where she lost to Ash Barty in straight sets. The lefty 19-year-old then was a promising talent and was expected to rule the women’s circuit. But injury setbacks backfired her and, she had to wait for four more years until she played her second Grand Slam final.

The amazing victory today was least expected even by the core Czech Republican fans today as Ons Jabeur looked in great touch and was being played with a true champion’s mentality before the finals. But Jabeur came as a whole different player today and she looked gassed out similar to what happened to her in the last two sets of last year’s final against Elena Rybakina.

Marketa Vondrousova is finally making the right noise in the tennis world and the unique lefty from Martina Navratilova‘s country is expected to make great runs in the coming hard-court swing as well. Marketa Vondrousova’s husband is Stepan Simek, and the couple got married in 2022.
