Wimbledon 2023 finalist and Czech Republican star Marketa Vondrousova praised the tennis legend Martina Navratilova for inspiring the current generation of players after defeating Ukrainian braveheart Elina Svitolina in the last of four battle. Vondrousova played a perfect grass court match in the semis and was able to win the match: 6-3, 6-3.
The inspired Czech Republican star said in the post-match press conference, “I mean, what Martina did here was crazy. I think everybody knows. It’s just amazing thing. I think it’s so, so tough to do it one time. She did it, I don’t know how many times, nine or Yeah, I feel like you can just look up to them.”
Continuing the train of thought, Vondrousova said about Navratilova and Jana Novotna, “Well, for sure I know them. I was very small. Of course you know them, but you don’t know them like you know maybe Petra Kvitova or Pliskova. I think we’re closer to them.”

Marketa Vondrousova reached the French Open final in 2019 as well
Vondrousova will be playing her second Grand Slam final in Wimbledon this year. She reached the Roland Garros final in 2019 before losing to Ash Barty in straights. The Czech star will be trying to give her all in the finals against the Tunisian World No.6 Ons Jabeur and get her first Grand Slam title.
Before the semi-finals, the Czech World No.42 Marketa Vondrousova showed absolute class in defeating the World No.4 from America, Jessica Pegula in the last eight encounter. The final score was 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The unseeded Czech player showed immense mentality to come back strong in the decider after losing the second set cheaply to the American top player. The Czech had lost only one set before the quarters, that was in the pre-quarter-finals.
Vondrousova has played Ons Jabeur six times in their careers. Both have won 3 matches each. In 2023, they played twice and the Czech star was able to win both matches. Their last meeting was in Indian Wells‘ third round.
