Marta Kostyuk talks about how she will never understand the French crowd
The French crowds are known to be rude and obnoxious to the players and everyone is aware of that. After Marta Kostyuk’s match against Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka at the French Open, she did not shake hands with Sabalenka as a sign of showing her support for her country (Ukraine) in the war, which led to the crowds booing her as she walked off.
She spoke to the press about how that was questionable behaviour from the fans and that she just didn’t understand it and she never will. She said they can do whatever they want but she doesn’t understand it.
She spoke about how the crowds started off supporting Sakkari but as the match went on they supported her, and how she was fine with the support the Greek was receiving as she is a top 10 player and Kostyuk ranked 36 in the world. “You know, I was fine with it Very happy with the support at the end of the match’,’ she said with a smile.
Marta Kostyuk is set to face the 25-year-old Spanish Paula Badosa in the second round of the Wimbledon as the matches have been delayed due to rain.
