Marta Kostyuk made a last-minute withdrawal against the Russian tennis star Mirra Andreeva in the final of the Negometal Open de Bourge-de-Peage. This has left fans fuming against her. Though the Ukrainian has always criticized the presence of Russian tennis players on tours, this action from Kostyuk has taken it to a different level.

The Ukrainian has expressed her dissatisfaction with the presence of Russian players in various ways. She also refused to shake hands with the Russian players. This is because of the Russia-Ukraine war dating back to 2022.

These actions of Kostyuk have frequently resulted in the fans booing against her. However, the World No.33 had always been firm in her stance regarding this protest. However, this action of withdrawal has left the fans questioning her integrity in the sport.

Marta Kostyuk always had an anti-Russian ideology. She was so far against the participation of the Russian and Belarusian players that she was in favor of ATP and WTA to hinder the participation of such players in the tours until the war stops in Ukraine. Kostyuk had also lashed out at the WTA for not enforcing a ban on the participation of those players.

There are mixed reactions on social media regarding this withdrawal from Marta Kostyuk. Some groups of fans think that Kostyuk made a correct decision.

These fans identified that Andreeva is known for liking the pro-Putin and anti-Ukrainian posts. On the other hand, a certain group has bashed Kostyuk for her withdrawal from the match.

Owing to this, Kostyuk pulled herself from the match against Andreeva. Moreover, Kostyuk felt that Russia and Belarus have created an advantage for their athletes.

The fans, however, felt that it was not right on the side of the 16-year-old Andrea. Reacting to this, the fans questioned Kostyuk for signing to take part in the tournament, knowing that she could come face to face even for once with a Russian. Though Kostyuk was not an initial part of the tournament. She had come as a replacement for Donna Vekic.
