Tennis legend Martina Navratilova criticized the mayor of New York City for his views on the relationship between the church and state. A couple of days back, Eric Adams advocated for more involvement of the church in the affairs of the state. And this did not go well with Navratilova.

The Democratic party politician was speaking at an interfaith breakfast on Tuesday. There he tried to link unrelated topics of gun violence with the prayers in schools. Understandably, a majority of the public was miffed by the statements of the Mayor.

“Don’t tell me about no separation of church and state. The state is the body. Church is the heart. You take the heart out of the body, the body dies,” Adams remarked.  “I can’t separate my belief because I’m an elected official. When I walk, I walk with God. When I talk, I talk with God,”

Navratilova replied with her own style calling Adams a coward. “Eric Adams wades into church-state quicksand- once again – if Adams always felt this way, he ought to have mentioned it when running for Mayor, not after. #coward  – yup- I will call him out on this,” her Twitter post read.
