Former tennis ace Martina Navratilova is known for voicing her opinion on anything and everything happening around her. The former World No.1 is also known for her dislike for the Republican party and her support for Democrats. Now, Navratilova’s stand on allowing trans athletes in women’s sports is also not a hidden fact.

But when her favorite Democrat leaders- Joe Biden and Barack Obama were subjected to criticism for their stance on the same, Navratilova came forward to defend them. The former tennis ace claimed that these two leaders had nothing to do with trans athletes getting entry into women’s sports.

This claim from Navratilova came after a user commented under a post that talked about demanding a separate category in sports for women. As the user claimed while this trend started under Obama and it has flourished under Biden’s leadership, Martina Navratilova denied it.

What do people think about trans athletes in women’s sports in Martina Navratilova’s America?

Martina Navratilova has herself opposed the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports calling it cheating and has openly supported the likes of JK Rowling who refuse to accept that trans women are women. Meanwhile, a large section of Americans are also not in favor of trans athletes getting admission to women’s sports.

According to a survey in June this year, 69% of people in America say that transgender athletes should only be allowed to compete on sports teams that correspond with the sex they were assigned at birth. This is an increase of 7% from the last year. In fact, 55% of Americans consider “changing one’s gender” to be more “morally wrong” than in 2021, when it was 51%.

The political stance on the same is also quite clear. While Republicans are openly against the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports, Joe Biden’s Democrats support the narrative. It was proved when Biden called for a Veto when House Republicans introduced a bill that barred trans athletes from entering women’s sports.

Such a scenario becomes a dilemma for Navratilova. However, the former tennis ace is quite clear in her thought process as she continues to back the Democrats and oppose the Republicans despite knowing their stance in this critical matter.
